GT3 + GT4 - Isotope ratio measurements by MC-ICP-MS and advances in the use and application of LA-ICP-MS methods, Pau, November 1st - December 2nd, 2017

Group trainings GT3 “Isotope ratio measurements by MC-ICP-MS” and GT4 “Advances in the use and application of LA-ICP-MS methods” that were organised by IPREM/UPPA. The group trainings were held at IPREM/UPPA from 1st of November to 2nd of December 2016.

The objective of the training on the measurements of isotope ratios by MC-ICP-MS (GT3) and on the coupling of ICP-MS with LA (GT4) was to provide participants with the skills required to produce quality isotope ratio data for environmental samples. The two group trainings were organised in a way to merge theory lessons in the morning, and practical work on instruments in the afternoon.

The group trainings were led by the leading experts from IPREM/UPPA from the field of MC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS and Hg analysis, dr. Olivier Donard, Sylvain Berail, dr. Julien Barre, dr. Gilles Bareille, dr. Christophe Pecheyran, dr, David Amouroux, dr. Oriol Baltrons and dr. Zoyne Pedrero. The attendees were from Germany, England, Tunisia, Slovenia and France.

The group training began with the registration and presentation of the IPREM institute by the director dr. Ryszard Lobynski. The first day of the training was devoted to isotope ratio measurements on MC-ICP-MS and coupling of gas chromatograph and laser ablation system with MC-ICP-MS. During the second day, emphasis was given to laser ablation system coupled with ICP-MS and MC-ICP-MS. Some presentations were devoted also to studies of Hg in the environment by coupling of CVG-Gold trap to MC-ICP-MS. The programme gave ample time for participants to be able to ask questions and discuss their own research problems on the personal basis with the experts.
